Malaysia will remain on the MotoGP calendar until at least the end of the 2031 season after a new five-year agreement was confirmed between the championship and the Malaysian Government.

The fresh deal covers the 2027 to 2031 seasons, ensuring the series continues its long-standing relationship with the Sepang International Circuit, which has hosted the Malaysian Grand Prix since 1999.

Malaysia first welcomed Grand Prix motorcycle racing in 1991, with the move to Sepang coming after the circuit opened just outside Kuala Lumpur. Since then, the venue has become one of the best-attended rounds on the MotoGP calendar and a regular fixture towards the end of the season.

The extension follows a record-breaking 2025 event, with organisers reporting a weekend attendance of 190,977 spectators – the highest in the race's history. Earlier this year, Kuala Lumpur also hosted MotoGP's 2026 season launch, attracting thousands of fans ahead of the opening round.

Malaysia's Minister of Youth and Sports, Mohammed Taufiq Johari, said the renewed agreement was about more than simply keeping a place on the MotoGP calendar.

He said the event continues to strengthen Malaysia's position as a motorsport destination while supporting economic growth, tourism, industry and talent development. He also described the Malaysian Grand Prix as the country's longest-running international sporting event, having first been held in 1991.

MotoGP CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta highlighted Malaysia's importance to the championship, pointing to its large fanbase and the growing economic impact of the race.

He added that Sepang remains one of MotoGP's standout venues thanks to its close links with Kuala Lumpur, strong local support and consistently competitive racing.

The agreement means fans can look forward to at least another five editions of the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang, with the 2026 event scheduled to take place from October 30 to November 1 before the new contract begins the following season.
