Cardo Systems has announced that it has acquired Riser, a motorcycle navigation app which also implements social elements.

Cardo has acquired Riser from KTM, which previously owned it, and will begin to develop the app into something which is more representative of both itself and its new ownership.

“Initially,” a Cardo press release says, “the app will operate as it currently does, and, gradually, the app will develop into an app represented by both companies.”

Riser’s appeal to Cardo comes from its combination of navigation and social riding. Cardo’s position as an established component of the communications and intercom segment of the motorcycle industry means it could be able to take advantage of Riser’s social elements to implement its own communication and intercom technology into the app.

“This acquisition,” the aforementioned press release reads, “will bring together the strengths of both companies, providing riders with a comprehensive range of communication, social and navigation solutions.

“The acquisition will allow Cardo to expand its reach beyond traditional communication systems and offer riders an all-in-one communication, navigation, and social networking solution.”

Cardo Systems CEO, Alon Lumbroso, said: “We are excited to join forces with Riser, which has created an innovative motorcycle app that enhances the riding experience.

“This acquisition will enable us to provide our customers with an even wider range of solutions, including navigation, community, and safety, that meet their evolving needs.”

Dominik Koffu, founder of Riser, added: “We are thrilled to become part of the Cardo family and combine our strengths to provide riders with a comprehensive set of tools that make their riding experience safer and more enjoyable. We look forward to continuing to develop and innovate our technology under the Cardo umbrella.”

KTM CEO, Stefan Pierer, said: “I am delighted to see Riser find a new home with Cardo, and we have every confidence that together they will achieve great success.”
