James Toseland marries Katie Melua

Former Superbike champion ties the knot with Nine Million Bicycles singer

TWO-TIME World Superbike champion James Toseland married singer Katie Melua on Saturday.

The pair, who announced their engagement in January, tied the knot at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew.

The newlyweds started dating last April after a meeting at one of her concerts at Sheffield City Hall.

Toseland, who retired from racing last year after suffering irreparable damage to his right wrist, previously said about Melua: "Katie has been great. She had no interest in me whatsoever because I was a motorcycle racer. She hadn’t heard of me. She wouldn’t even know what Valentino Rossi looked like.

"It was only because her piano player was such a fan that he kept talking about it on the tour bus after he’d met me.

"It was nice and a relief for someone so established to be attracted to me because of my personality."

Toseland is one of the rumoured contestants for this year's Strictly Come Dancing. Check out the former champion's move in this clip from A Question of Sport.
