Driver scraps van after leaving biker for dead

Peterborough Crown Court hear the harrowing story of Daniel Peeling, left for dead after van driver flees the scene of the crash

A VAN DRIVER who collided with a young motorcyclist before leaving him "for dead" tried covering his tracks by scrapping his vehicle just an hour after the incident, a court heard.

Peterborough Crown Court heard yesterday how Daniel Peeling suffered multiple injuries, including a brain injury, a fractured skull, a broken jaw, broken arms and a broken leg and spent nine days in intensive care after his motorcycle was hit by a van driving on the wrong side of the road in June 2008.

Daniel Devon, 21, who is believed to have been driving the Ford Transit van at the time of the incident, denies all knowledge of involvement in the crash.

However, Police found one of Devon's van registration plates at the scene of the crash. The jury went on to hear how Devon had been seen at a local scrapyard with the van less than an hour after the collision.

In court Daniel Peeling described how his injuries had affected his life; Mr Peeling has lost the use of his right arm because of brain damage and cannot walk unaided.

Devon denies a charge of dangerous driving. The trial continues.
