CFMoto moves closer to WorldSBK with 675SR-R agreement

CFMoto has moved a step closer to potentially joining WorldSBK, following confirmation that it will replace Yamaha as the exclusive motorcycle supplier for the all-women’s WorldWCR series in 2027.

CFMoto’s 675SR-R is set to replace the Yamaha R7 as the official race bike in the 2027 WorldWCR championship.

This marks CFMoto’s first foray into the WorldSBK paddock, where it could soon find a regular home for its V4 SR-RR prototype, which looks set to become the Chinese brand’s new flagship race bike.

It’s no secret that CFMoto is looking to compete at the highest level of world championship racing, but with MotoGP moving to 850cc engines in 2027, the 1,000cc V4 SR-RR is more likely to be used for a WorldSBK project if, or when, that gets announced.

Until then, CFMoto will provide 675SR-R machines to all female racers competing in the WorldWCR series.

The bike’s 675cc three-cylinder engine is expected to produce around 15 hp (14.7bhp) more in race trim compared to the R7. In standard road trim, the 675SR-R produces around 88bhp.

The reason for CFMoto taking over completely from Yamaha is to keep the championship as equal as possible in terms of performance and competitiveness.

CFMoto will also be joining the championship at the same time as Michelin, with the French tyre manufacturer taking over from Pirelli in all four classes (WorldSBK, WorldSSP, WorldSPB, and WorldWCR).

Becoming the world championship’s official one-make provider is big news for CFMoto, however, it’s arguably just as big for WorldSBK and its support series.

That’s because WorldSBK is set to make its debut in China next season, where it will race at the famous Shanghai International Circuit.

Gregorio Lavilla, WorldSBK Executive Director, said this about the new agreement with CFMoto:

"Since WorldWCR began, our ambition has been to create more opportunities and build strong competition. Continuing to raise the bar for the riders is a key part of that. The CFMOTO 675SR-R gives our riders a more powerful motorcycle to master and a new challenge to help them develop, while retaining the equal technical conditions that make their ability count. We are pleased to welcome CFMOTO for the next three seasons and look forward to working together to develop WorldWCR on track and extend its international reach."
