Buell Motorcycles is getting closer to officially launching its all-new Super Cruiser, with a stress test already underway before it lands in dealers.

The American company has put together a team of riders and engineers who are responsible for pushing the bike to its limit in different conditions.

The test, which is spread over four weeks, starts with a trip to Arizona in a bid to expose the Super Cruiser to extreme heat. In particular, Buell wants to test the bike’s fuel metering and hot fuel performance. It will also head to the Toyota Proving Grounds oval track to assess the stability and control of its fuelling system in a high-temperature setting.

Week two will see the new model tested at high altitude in Colorado. The team plans to take the Super Cruiser to an altitude of around 14,115 feet (around 4,300 metres). To put that into perspective, Ben Nevis, the UK’s tallest peak, is 1,345 meters (4,413 feet) high. That altitude will expose the bike to greatly reduced levels of oxygen, meaning its ECU will have to adapt on the fly as the altitude rises and falls.

Further heat and airflow tests are planned in weeks three and four, with trips to Nevada and California. Buell intends to use the Las Vegas strip for part of its rugged programme, which includes testing the Super Cruiser during peak rush hour times.

Buell says the Super Cruiser will soon be unveiled to the public, which includes the UK. Buell has enjoyed bike sale success, according to reports, since making its return to our shores in May.

Buell’s initial return to the UK took place with Rainbow Moto, a small motorcycle shop in Newton Abbot, Devon. A dealer expansion is reportedly taking place as we speak, and the Super Cruiser, alongside the Super Touring models, will soon land in the UK.
