WATCH Razgatlioglu and Sofuoglu duke it out hard on a karting track

The student becomes the master... watch this mesmerising little but hard battle between Toprak Razgatlioglu and his mentor/manager Kenan Sofuoglu

Toprak Razgatlioglu

While we wait (very) patiently for the motorsport season to get back underway, we will literally take any exciting racing action we can at the moment… even if it’s two high level riders battling it out on bikes around a tight and twisty karting track.

For Toprak Razgatlioglu and Kenan Sofuoglu, their time on the sidelines hasn’t been spent entirely performing home workout videos on Instagram but instead they have been keeping some semblance of match fitness up by having a little fun on a karting track.

In this clip on Instagram we see both Sofuoglu and Razgatlioglu going hard at it on what could be called a ‘mini-Phillip Island’, ducking, diving and undercutting between one another but avoiding any contact… it’s almost mesmerising, while it’s easy to see Razgatlioglu has honed his rather active riding style!

A rare glimpse at ‘Master vs Pupil’, five-time WorldSSP Champion Sofuoglu has turned his attentions to mentoring in recent years, with Razgatlioglu emerging as his star student.

The Turk emerged as the standout performer in 2019, notching up a pair of wins at Magny-Cours en route to fifth overall aboard a privateer Kawasaki prior to his move to the factory Yamaha team in 2020. Razgatlioglu even scored a victory on his first weekend aboard the R1 in Australian prior to lockdown being initiated.

With Razgatlioglu on his way, Sofuoglu will now attempt to nurture Can Oncu through the ranks. Already the record-holder for being the youngest Grand Prix winner after securing a Moto3 triumph on his debut at Valencia aged just 15-years old, Oncu will compete in WorldSSP this year on the Turkish Racing Kawasaki.
