Reacting to questions in the pre-Assen MotoGP press conference, Smith highlighted the fact that despite his team mate Cal Crutchlow and Moto2 star Pol Espargaro battling over a seat in the squad in 2014, he doesn't see any reason why he'll be squeezed out. Smith's contract is a two-year deal running until the end of the 2014 season.
Crutchlow however is out of contract at the end of this year and rumours are that Pol Espargaro could take his place in the squad.
Talking in the press conference, Smith said: “Yamaha have believed in me this year. I'm hoping for my results to improve. There's always going to be difficult situations with the amount of riders that are in our team and the amount of riders that are supposed to be going into our team!"
