VALENTINO ROSSI put more than a serious dent in his chances of retaining the MotoGP world title when the Italian crashed out of Mugello Free Practice 2, breaking his shin bone in the process.

In true Evel Knievel style, Rossi still managed to wave to fans as he was airlifted from Mugello.
