BSB Silverstone Race 3 Results | Imperious Irwin does the treble at Silverstone

Glenn Irwin gets his 2022 British Superbike Championship (BSB) season off to a perfect start with a triple victory for Honda at Silverstone

Glenn Irwin - Honda Racing, 2022 BSB

Glenn Irwin got his 2022 British Superbike Championship title bid off to a superb start as he wrapped a career-first BSB treble victory at Silverstone.

Following a lights-to-flag victory from pole in Race 1 and a battling run to the top in Race 2, Irwin faced another challenge from fifth on the grid for Race 3.

However, after quickly muscling his way to second on the opening lap, his move for the lead on Rory Skinner by lap four would prove decisive.

Steadily building his advantage over the chasing pack, Irwin crossed the line a comfortable winner by just under a second.

The first time either Irwin or Honda has completed a trio of wins in a single weekend, it already well exceeds the team’s single victory - also at Silverstone - during the entirety of 2021 to give the Ulsterman a strong early lead in the standings.

Bradley Ray bounced back from his spill out of the lead in Race 2 to secure a battling second place finish, the OMG Yamaha rider recovering from a difficult first few laps that bullied him down from pole to fifth, to get the better of Andrew Irwin late on..

Shadowing his brother up the order early on, the Synetiq BMW rider looked good to make it an Irwin 1-2 before being overhauled by Ray, who was lucky not to be thrown into a double DNF after being flicked out of the seat coming onto the final straight on Lap 20.

Though unable to capitalise on a brief spell out front early on, Skinner recovered from a mid-race lull to complete a successful first weekend of the year in fifth on the FS-3 Kawasaki, holding Danny Buchan, who threw away a podium finish with a wide moment at Woodcote shortly before the end.

On a tough day for the Ducati contingent, Tommy Bridewell fought hard for seventh, heading off Lee Jackson, Peter Hickman and double podium winner Kyle Ryde, the OMG Yamaha rider struggling to find his rhythm early on as he slid from second on the grid to 15th at one stage before recovering to tenth.

Christian Iddon was 11th, with Tom Neave enjoying a positive end to his first weekend as a full-time Honda rider in 12th. Leon Haslam, Dan Linfoot and Danny Kent completed the points, keeping out Tom Sykes in 16th, the 2013 WorldSBK Champion left empty-handed on Sunday following his dramatic high-side in Race 2.
