Police officer suffers broken arm while stopping motorcycle theft suspect
A police officer in Derbyshire is facing a “long road to recovery” after suffering a broken arm while stopping a motorcycle thief.

An unnamed police officer has suffered a broken arm after catching a motorcycle thief who was seen stealing a Suzuki 1250 Bandit from the Royal Derby Hospital.
The incident happened shortly after 8pm on Monday night, with police immediately informed of the theft, which also involved a second motorcycle.
Officers making their way to the scene spotted the motorcycle in question, which had been stolen earlier that night.
A pursuit then began, leading to the eventual arrest of a 19-year-old man from Derby, who was arrested on suspicion of GBH (grievous bodily harm) with intent to resist arrest and two thefts of motorcycles.

However, one of the officers who captured the suspect suffered a broken arm during the ensuing struggle.
The arrested man remains in custody, at the time of this writing, while the officer is currently receiving treatment.
The second motorcycle in question was a bright yellow BMW R1150 GS, which was stolen from Friar Gate, near the junction with Vernon Street, at 7.10pm.
Speaking about the incident, Temporary Chief Constable, Simon Blatchly, said:
"I am sure the public will share my shock at the injury sustained by this officer – who was simply trying to keep our city safe and stop a criminal from escaping justice.
"Each and every day officers start their shift not knowing what they will be faced with – but knowing that they may have to put their safety, and even their life, on the line.
"This officer didn't think twice about running after a potentially dangerous individual, and he is now staring down the barrel of a long road to recovery.
"I, along with his fellow officers and every right-minded member of our community, wish him well and hope his recovery is as quick as possible."
According to the force, the BMW R1150 GS left Slack Lane, located west of the city centre, with a rider and pillion onboard. Officers are asking anyone who may have witnessed the theft, or have footage of either of the bikes being stolen, to come forward.
