Paul Hollywood Chopper Goes to Auction
The bike might be a (very) acquired taste, but Great British Bake Off judge, Paul Hollywood, is selling his 2004 Big Dog Ridgeback
The Great British Bake Off judge, Paul Hollywood, is flogging his custom-built Big Dog Ridgeback chopper, as featured on the road-trip TV show Paul Goes To Hollywood.
The bike seems to have only been used for the TV show, as it has a reported 3,000 miles on the clock, only 300 miles more than the shortest distance by road between New York and Los Angeles, the route Hollywood rode in the mini-series. Once filming for the show was complete in 2019, Hollywood had the bike shipped back to the UK where it has remained in his collection.
Big Dog Motorcycles is based in Wichita, Kansas, and according to the brand's website, it is the biggest custom bike maker in the world. This particular machine is built around an S&S 1,753cc, pushrod V-Twin, which is mated to a custom-built hardtail frame. The bike still carries the ‘Hollywood of Bust’ graphics on the air filter cover, and there is a plethora of stickers on the rear mudguard (or ‘fender’ if you are from across the pond!) highlighting the places Hollywood stopped at on his journey.
With base model Big Dog bikes costing upwards of £30,000, bagging the Paul Hollywood bike not only gets you a genuine machine which has been used on TV, but you’ll also save a huge chunk of cash compared to a brand new bike. The guide price for the machine is between £12,000 and £14,000, although it's unclear as to whether or not the ‘Hollywood effect’ will help to push that number up any higher.
Hollywood is a notorious petrolhead, and a big fan of high-performance machines of the two and four-wheeled variety. His collection has previously included Ducati Panigales and even a supercharged Kawasaki H2, although the Big Dog chopper is likely the most ‘eye-catching’.
