An old post office in the village of Lyndhurst, which is located in Hampshire, has been vacated for many years but is now set to become a new motorcycle shop and cafe.

It’s being reported that members of the New Forest National Park Authority (NPA) approved the application to turn the Lyndhurst High Street building into a motorcycle dealer, and that will mostly sell electric models.

It is also believed that none of the motorcycles would be parked or left on display outside of the dealership.

The applicant is not believed to have expressed any desire to change the layout of the building, which spans 130sqm, despite it gaining approval to be turned into a motorcycle shop and cafe.

According to the Bournemouth Echo, a report from the NPA said: "Whilst the display and sale of motorcycles may be more unusual in a High Street location, it is not considered to be inappropriate, particularly given the position of the site adjacent to a Ferrari showroom.

"The proposal would bring into use a long-vacant premise, contributing to the economy and vibrancy of the village. There are no external works proposed at this stage and, as there would be no extension to the building, the change of use would not have a direct impact on the surrounding area."

Three letters of objection, and four others are believed to have raised concerns about the proposal.

But Lyndhurst councillor, Hilary Brand, is quoted as saying: "I have spoken to a number of people and businesses in the village and the majority are very happy that the old post office will at last be open. It has been an eyesore now for many years and it will be great to see it back in use."
