SPY SHOTS: 2021 KTM RC390/RC490 sportsbike spotted undisguised

The sole remaining sportsbike in the KTM range - the KTM RC390 - is spotted undisguised for the first time ahead of its anticipated world premiere

KTM RC390

SPY shots of the anticipated KTM RC390 (or RC490) have been unearthed, after it was spotted by eagle-eyed enthusiast Albin Antony. If it's the real deal, this could point to an official announcement coming right around the corner for the latest supersports bike from KTM.

Seen in a couple of Indian sites so far Motoroids & Rushlane, this KTM RC390 appears to have a standard exhaust placement (rather than underbelly on smaller model variants) and recognisable KTM side-fairing.

It’s also worth thinking if this will in fact be an RC490, as the KTM plant looks to be adjusted for Euro 5. The Duke 490 is thought to be the next model to receive updates from the Austrian manufacturer, but that will likely appear in 2022.

What’s new for the KTM RC390?

Referring back to the spy-shot, it appears the rear end has had a bit of work done, but it’s recognisably orange - of course. Previous spy shots have shown the same front LED unit as in the  390 Duke and 390 Adventure.

Rumoured updates are quite far-reaching for the latest faired sportsbike from KTM, including updated chassis, new alloys, an improved cooling system and new ECU, uprated suspension front & rear, and better brakes. It’s thought the engine is likely to remain as 390 (373cc single, 43BHP & 35Nm torque) for now, as it’s currently Euro 5 compliant.

We’ll await confirmations to see if the new RC is around the corner, but it’s now looking very likely! It'll be interesting to see if the price goes up much from the current £5,200 tag.
