A more hardcore Yamaha Ténéré 700 could be on the cards

In what could be golden news to adventure riders, the already capable Yamaha Ténéré 700 could get an even more extreme sibling

YAMAHA could make a more hardcore version of the Ténéré 700 according to an insider at the company. In the interview with the Italian website, Motociclismo, Ténéré 700 project leader Takushiro Shiraishi went on record saying they ‘were to receive many requests, we will certainly keep it in mind.’

As sales successes go, the Yamaha Ténéré 700 is up there as one of the best performing all-new models of 2019. The mix of rugged styling, capable hardware, and chassis components and that super-punchy MT-07 derived engine have made adventurists worldwide make a beeline for their nearest Yamaha dealership.

But while the Yamaha provides more thrills and ability than all but the most experienced off-road riders possess, it’s still not 100% the complete off-road adventure motorcycle. With a 19-litre tank on the Ténéré, it’s frugal 700 CP2 engine offers a theoretical range of around 200-miles. While that’s good for the odd tour on an island nation like the UK, not so good if you’re planning on crossing more inhospitable corners of the globe!

Does the Yamaha Ténéré 700 need a makeover?

While the prospect of a more hardcore, slightly larger and more distance inspired Ténéré 700 is a mouth-watering prospect, we should take the comment from one of the bike’s creators with a pinch of salt – Yamaha already have a larger, more rugged and more distance inspired machine in the ranks: the XT1200ZE Super Ténéré. Surely is Yamaha was about to create a new adventure machine it’d be based upon their existing adventure motorcycle, and not their rally-inspired enduro machine?

Do you think the prospect of a more hardcore Ténéré 700 is a good thing? Or would you rather see the XT1200ZE get a makeover?
