MY22-Kwak-Z650

WE rated the newly updated Kawasaki Z650 as one of the best A2 and new rider nakeds on the market back in January 2020. It handles brilliantly, looks great in updated form, and has all the tech and toys a new rider could want.

It is hardly surprising to hear then that Kawasaki is offering a mild update to the model for 2022. The Z650 is a key model for Kawasaki, forming the spearhead of the ultra-competitive middleweight naked range. It’s so good in fact that six-time World Superbike champion Jonathan Rea was quick to select the bike as his steed of choice for training and taking his motorcycle test on. High Praise indeed.

For 2022 the Z650 is more of an evolution, not revolution strategy. The water-cooled, 649cc, eight-valve engine remains untouched, meaning in full-power trim you have a healthy 67bhp and 47lb-ft of torque to play with. The best TFT dash on two wheels remains too, meaning you have Bluetooth connectivity through Kawasaki’s Rideology app. This allows you to check the health of the bike, download machine data and log rides, all from your smartphone.

The Z650 will be available in early October in three editions, Standard, Performance and new for 2022, Urban, which comes equipped with a top box. On top of that, a new striking colour scheme has been added to the range in the form of Pearl Robotic White – see lead image.

  • Metallic Spark Black/Metallic Flat Spark Black (Standard – £6,949, Urban – £7,169, Performance – £8,449)
  • Candy Lime Green/Metallic Spark Black (Standard – £7,049, Urban – £7,269, Performance – £8,549)
  • Pearl Robotic White/Metallic Matte Graphenesteel Gray (Standard – £7,049, Urban – £7,269, Performance – £8,549)
