Husqvarna 701 Vitpilen Aero Concept wins design award

We saw the Husqvarna 701 Vitpilen Aero Concept at EICMA 2018, and it’s taken until now for it to get the recognition it deserves

THE Husqvarna 701 Vitpilen is a good-looking bike in its own right. The unique mix of angular styling and matt finishes really do make it a bike that looks like nothing else on the road.

But what happens when you take the Vitpilen and turn the design dial up to eleven? You end up with this stunning machine called the Vitpilen Aero.

The bike broke cover in 2018 and we were on the Husqvarna stand when they pulled the covers off the bike at EICMA – we fell in love with it then and that feeling still hasn’t waned!

Now the bike has been awarded Best of the Best Automotive Brand Contest’s motorcycle category for 2019. The bike is a collaboration between Austrian design maestros KISKA and Husqvarna and was released to help drive up the profile of the mass-market (and bloody good) Vitpilen.

The event is a worldwide contest for automotive brands, it’s independently judged and supposed to find and highlight products that are not just brilliant, but that increase brand awareness for companies.

It’s not the first time that Husky’s work has been noted on the world stage. The original Vitpilen concept won an gong at the 2016 iF Product Design Awards Competition. With the roadgoing Vitpilen 701 and 401 models being recognised just a year later.

If anything, we just wish somebody would come up with either a kit for customers to buy and convert their existing bikes into this sleek looking machine. And if any of those customers could let us have a go on one, that’d be great too!
