Aprilia reveals performance-based SR GT 400 scooter

Aprilia is bringing a new performance scooter to its line-up, but really, the new SR GT 400 wants to be a motorcycle.

Aprilia has revealed its all-new SR GT 400 mid-capacity scooter, which by all accounts, could just as easily be thought of as a motorcycle.

Aprilia itself calls the new model a crossover between the two, as it wraps the brand’s design philosophy, innovation and general attitude of its motorcycle models, and puts it directly into a big-bodied scooter ball, if you will.

The new SR GT 400 also signifies Aprilia’s debut in the mid-cc scooter segment, with the new model benefiting from an entirely new chassis.

The SR GT 400 stands for performance and adventure, and is designed to handle various types of riding whether that’s navigating city traffic, long weekend rides, or even a touch of off-road.

Powering the new model is a 400cc, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces a claimed 35.5bhp at 7,500rpm and 27.8 Ib-ft of torque at 5,700rpm.

Its steel double-cradle frame and long-travel suspension is another obvious sign that the SR GT 400 takes after the company’s motorcycles.

In terms of electronic equipment, it gets Aprilia’s ATC (Aprilia Traction Control) system that can be adjusted to two levels of intervention, but can also be disabled, even while riding.

The suspension setup includes a 41mm upside-down double-plate fork, with 120mm of travel at the front. Twin gas shocks with adjustable preload and 120mm of travel are found at the rear.

Stopping power comes via a 300mm floating disc with a four-piston radial caliper. Meanwhile, the rear gets a two-piston calliper that chomps down on a 240mm disc.

The braking system is supported by Bosch dual-channel ABS with dual mapping on both wheels, or just on the front if that’s your preference. The ABS can be disabled on the rear wheel, while the rider can also choose to disable it every time the ATC OFF level is selected.

The SR GT 400 comprises a five-inch TFT display, and a full LED triple-lamp headlight. The new scooter also comes in a total of four colour options, which include Rugged Black, Boulder Grey, Dusty Grey, and a Rally Replica variant.

Pricing and availability have not yet been confirmed.
