Valentino Rossi has suffered one of the most bizarre incidents you could imagine at a GT World Challenge race in Barcelona, Spain.

The nine-time motorcycle Grand Prix world champion was racing the No.46 WRT BMW alongside team-mate Max Hesse, when his driver’s side door came loose.

Rossi’s door then flew off at high speed, leaving the Italian very exposed as he continued circulating.

It’s unclear how the door became loose in the first place, however, due to the safety risks involved, Rossi was immediately called back to the pits.

Rossi and Hesse were running 12th before the driver’s door detached, which proved costly in their bid to secure a top-ten result.

The incident took place in the second and final race of the event, following the pair’s 16th place finish in race one.

Last weekend’s event marked the penultimate round of the series, with Rossi set to contest the final round of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup at Portimao on October 16-18.

Rossi will be joined by Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen, with the four-time F1 world champion set to race a No.3 Verstappen Racing Mercedes AMG.

Since retiring from MotoGP at the end of 2021, Rossi has focused heavily on his four-wheel racing career, which includes racing in the above-mentioned GT World Challenge series, the 24H GT series and the World Endurance Championship.

This has also led to Rossi competing at some of the most iconic race tracks in the world such as Spa-Francorchomps, and at Le Mans as part of the 24 hour race.
