Honda is apparently interested in putting together a dream in MotoGP - tell me a team that’s not - but one rumoured name has been with KTM his whole Grand Prix career and one is currently a two-time World Superbike champion, so is it realistic?

Yes that’s right, Honda is reportedly interested in pairing KTM superstar Pedro Acosta with arguably the most talented superbike rider of all time, Toprak Razgatlioglu, according to reports in Italy.

Honda has enjoyed a bright start to the 2025 MotoGP season, with Joan Mir and Luca Marini both flashing considerable potential on more than one occasion, while LCR rider Johann Zarco has delivered on that same potential more than any Honda rider thus far.

But there has still been inconsistency at the factory team, which begs the question, could Honda do better?

Of course, that’s very much an opinion-driven question and the beautiful thing is that everyone will have a different view on what would look like a better line-up than Mir and Marini.

After all, Mir is a MotoGP champion and Marini has proven he can compete at the very front of MotoGP on his day. However, Honda wants to be back fighting at the front – are those the two riders that can take the fight to KTM’s factory team of Acosta and Brad Binder, Aprilia Racing duo Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin, or even better, Francesco Bagnaia and current championship leader Marc Marquez at Ducati?

It’s not out of the question that Honda could pull a blinder and secure both signings - we’ve seen stranger things happen - but it’s whether it can do enough to convince the riders it wants about the project.

For riders like Acosta and Razgatlioglu that will be the biggest challenge, because both riders are already very eager to win in their respective teams and championships.

There’s no denying that a team of Acosta and Razgatlioglu would be box office, and rumours of Razgatlioglu joining MotoGP in 2026 are ramping up.

However, pulling someone like Acosta away from KTM, especially when Honda has done little to show that it is ready to win races, will be hard.

Where this also gets difficult is the fact Acosta is currently on a multi-year deal with KTM, and despite its financial difficulties in recent months, the Austrian company has shown no signs of bringing its MotoGP project to an end, nor does it want to lose the best young talent on the grid.

Razgatlioglu might be the easier of the two riders to sign as he appears to be very keen on finally securing a switch to MotoGP, after years of being linked with teams in the Grand Prix paddock. However, the Turkish star and his manager Kenan Sofuoglu will likely want assurance that the project they are joining is ready to win.

Yamaha has also been mentioned as a possible destination for Razgatlioglu in MotoGP, while staying with BMW in World Superbike also remains a big possibility.

Do we want to see Razgatlioglu in MotoGP? Yes. Do we want to see him racing against the likes of Acosta? Again, yes! But the pair doing so in the same team - while it would undoubtedly be a dream team - is still unlikely at this stage.
