Yamaha Niken scoops Red Dot Design Award

The bike won the ‘Best of the Best’ which is the second gong the machine has won since its launch

YAMAHA has announced that its NIKEN sports tourer has been chosen as the "Best of the Best" in the globally-renowned Red Dot Award: Product Design 2019 competition.

The prize means Yamaha has received a Red Dot Award for its products for the last eight consecutive years from 2012, this year it also achieved the fourth Yamaha product to be selected as the "Best of the Best". The prize is also the second award the Niken has received since its launch, previously picking up the Good Design Award in 2018.

The Niken is a large model Leaning Multi Wheeler (LMW) with and is powered by the same 845cc liquid-cooled in-line three-cylinder engine as the popular MT09. The Niken range extends to two models in 2019, with the touring-oriented GT joining the standard naked. The GT gains a touring screen, heated grips, a comfort seat and panniers.

The Red Dot Design Awards, organized by Germany's Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, are widely recognized as one of the most prestigious design awards in the world.
