Well, hello Alan...

Visordown has a new editor...

There's been a change here at Visordown today. The name above the door remains the same – but the licensee holders' details have been tweaked a little. The erstwhile holder of this esteemed post, Mr Steve Farrell, has left us, for 'pastures new', as it were. And in his place, you now have me – Alan Dowds. I've been helping out round here for a year or so now, as a freelance tester and writer. Now though, I'll be stopping all the bucks (not those ones), rather than swanning about doing the easy stuff. I'm looking forward to it.

But who the fuck is Alan Dowds? It's a good question. I've been riding and writing about bikes for more than 23 years now, and worked as a staffer at MCN, RiDE and SuperBike magazines. Since 2010 I've been working as a freelancer, for many more websites and mags. I've got a turbocharged ZRX1100 in bits, a Burgman 650 for carting the kids about in that London, and my current favourite bike is Ducati's Multistrada. That will probably change by teatime though.

I'd love to hear from you folks out there in internet land. Don't be shy in telling me what you want more – and less – of from Visordown. That means in here, on the Facebooks and the Twitters too of course. We'll be making a few changes, and it would be great to hear what you think as we go along.

You can get hold of me via Twitter (@alandowds), or direct via email (alan dot dowds @ visordown dot com). I look forward to relentless piss-taking about my accent, hairstyle, BMI, and poor choice in free T-shirts.

Al

Hi - i hope i speak for most here.....too many ads....whilst i appreciate that the site needs to generate revenue to keep going literally clicking on anything sends browsers into overdrive from pop ups, massive banners appearing in front of the content, ads sliding down the sides etc etc which in turn sends my tablet to freeze up and makes viewing on a phone a waste of time. The content is great....when you can actually read it...

Thanks for the feedback - understood that stuff which actually *breaks* the site is mega frustrating (for us as well as you ha!) I'll pass this onto the clever tech folk - if you have examples of what ads aren't working for you, please give me a shout direct (alan dot dowds at visordown dot com) and we can look at them more closely.

Cheers! Al

Another couple of Laura Thomson's would be good :) She's a great reviewer/journalist and it's refreshing to get an informed female perspective without any apologies for being a girl.
Oh, how about wrestling the competitions away from MCN too...

We're trying to blag a small cloning laboratory as we speak, and will keep you in the loop re Project Redclone.

Cheers! Al

Hi and welcome. I wont mention the hair but I will mention the swearing. Do you think you can write without sticking the F word in to a sentence? I'm no prude, far from it, but do you really have to swear in an editorial?
Consider yourself chastised and don't do it again.

Thanks for that Gmann - I'll put you down as a 'maybe' in my "do we need more swearing' survey then?

I'm in for a haircut tomorrow as well, so maybe I'll emerge a changed man...

Cheers!

Ooh just remembered to log in for this posting lark, thanks for your gmail reply Alan. Hope Steve's doing well and shame his Nivala update probably won't happen! Don't forget to mind the language!

No worries! Does Steve owe you an update then? Shall we send the boys round?

Output sometimes seemed glacial in the past. On a couple of days evidence - improved already.

Ah, we'll be doing out best to avoid all glacial situations. Although it is pretty parky outside...

Cheers!

Al
