Spain to introduce emissions-based motorbike tax

Oh dear folks, it's only a matter of time

Emissions-based bike tax for Spain in 2009

SPAIN HAS announced that it will be the first country in Europe to tax motorcycles based on their emissions.

The scheme is to start in 2009 and will be enforced when a bike is registered. The tax will be payable according to the individual bike's emissions based on the following; motorcycles that emit less than 80 g/km of CO2 will be exempt, motorcycles that emit between 80 and 100 g/km of CO2 will pay 4.75 percent of the registration tax, motorcycles that emit between 100 and 120 g/km of CO2 will pay 9.75 percent tax, motorcycles that emit over 120 g/km of CO2 or have more than 100bhp will pay a whopping 14.75 percent tax.

Anyone see the smog and pollution around the Olympic Games? India's increasing carbon output and what the Yanks are churning out too?
So taxing motorcycles, which reduce congestion and have less impact on roads and infrastructre, seem the perfect way to save the planet.
Or get more money out of us under a thinly-veiled 'eco tax' of course...
