Rider dies in 3-bike pile-up at Snetterton

A BIKER has died following a three-bike crash at Snetterton race track.

The man, who has not been named, was taking part in a track day event this morning, when the incident happened. He died at the scene.

Police confirmed that the accident happened at 9.45am and said three riders were involved. The East Anglian air ambulance transported one of the riders who was suffering from neck and back injuries to the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital. A third man was treated for minor injuries at the scene by paramedics.

Motorsport Vision, which owns five major racetracks in the UK including Snetterton and Brands Hatch, has issued a statement saying: “We regret to report that an accident took place this morning at the track. Despite receiving immediate medical care at the scene he sadly succumbed to his injuries.

“The circumstances of the incident are currently being investigated and we are assisting with the relevant authorities. Everyone at MSV would like to extend their deepest condolences to the rider's family and friends.”

The company was not releasing any further information until next of kin were informed.

The timing of the accident suggests it happened during a novice group session.

Track days are run by Hottrax Ltd who provide full instructions to all participants including safety information. Before any rider takes to the track they also listen to a full safety briefing with the novice group getting a further, more detailed briefing and introduction to the instructors once the intermediate and advanced groups are preparing for their sessions.

Fully qualified paramedics and trained marshals are in attendance at every track day event.
