The offer from NIU on its MQi GT Evo electric scooter comes in the form of a contribution of £1,300 by the brand itself, in addition to the existing UK government electric motorcycle grant which will remain in place until at least the financial year ending 2023. The intention of the grant is to encourage more people to buy electric bikes, and to support the manufacturers building them, and marketing them in the UK, in the period where the electric segment is still quite marginal.
NIU UK’s new £1,300 contribution means that the NIU MQi GT Evo can be ridden out of your nearest NIU dealer for £3,499, which puts it £800 less than the dual battery version of the SuperSoco CPx.
A 125cc-equivalent electric, the MQi GT Evo makes use of a 5kW (6.7hp) motor located at the rear wheel to provide a top speed of over 60mph, slightly more than the 56mph achievable by the aforementioned SuperSoco.
The range extends as far as 70 miles, thanks to the twin, removable 2.52kWh batteries which can charge from 0-100% in five hours. That’s around 10 miles less than the SuperSoco CPx’s claimed 87 miles from its dual 2.7kWh batteries.
