A LANCASHIRE town centre pub, favoured by the areas local motorcycling community, has been given a stay of execution after new tenants pledged to return the much-loved pub back to its biker roots.

The Hope on Anchor in Accrington has shared a long association with the Accrington Motorcycle Club, but has almost been closed twice in the last twelve months due to previous temporary tenants trying to change the pub's theme.

The pub's new tenants Susan McKnight, 51 and her partner Steven Smith, also 51, who have pledged to return the pub back to its original biker-friendly format after the previous tenants' "pink leather couch" approach.

“We’ve already had people in saying ‘thank God, you’ve taken over’. They really like the refurbishment job we have done," Mr Smith told The Lancashire Telegraph.

“The previous tenants were trying something new with pink leather couches and the like. That’s OK, but this is a biker’s pub and traditional customers were put off.

“We’re hoping to bring the pub back to its former glory and will be having live music here every Friday."
