Happy birthday to the Bike Shed

Top notch London bike café celebrates third anniversary of its opening

The Bike Shed

If you ride about London regularly (we know most of you don't of course) then you've probably heard of the Bike Shed café in Shoreditch. You might even have been in there for a beer, or at one of their MotoGP race Sundays. We're fans here at Visordown, and were up there last night actually, for a halloumi burger and a can of fashionable lager. Very nice it was too.

Amazingly, it's three years since the café/bar/restaurant/show space opened – so happy birthday to them. The retro bike scene might not be to your taste, but we see all sorts of riders at the Bike Shed, and everyone is definitely made welcome. If you're up town, on your bike or not, it's a great spot for a coffee or lunch. There are smart custom bikes on show, and the shop out back sells riding kit, T-shirts, helmets, boots, the lot. You'll not find any one-piece race leathers right enough – but the BSMC T-shirts are very nice, and properly made too.

Next up on the Bike Shed calendar is their bike show, at Tobacco Dock in Wapping (May 25-27th), which is well worth a visit (and we covered it here). And the outfit is looking to expand too. Founder Dutch van Someren (above) is exploring a new café in Los Angeles, with more planned for the future.

The Bike Shed is on Shoreditch High Street, 5 mins from Old Street tube.
