Enduro legend succumbs to internal injuries

FINNISH Enduro rider Mika Ahola has died following a training accident in Spain.

Ahola, 37, died in hospital a few weeks after the training crash that left him with severe internal injuries.

Ahola won five consecutive Enduro championships from 2007 to 2011 and was the first to win across three different classes. He also won the ISDE three times outright and seven times as part of the Finnish national team.

Announcing his retirement from racing at the start of this year, he said: "I have fulfilled my ambitions and I feel that it is time to move on and see what else the world has to offer."
