Advanced police motorcycle instructor gives lessons on YouTube

POLICE are giving motorcycle training through YouTube using GoPro footage of a ride with one of their advanced instructors.

Advanced police motorcycle trainer PC Roger Peskett shares his hazard awareness and safety tips in the clips, which aim to reduce casualties on urban roads.

Two have been published on Hampshire Police’s YouTube channel, one on observation skills and a second, above, on safe filtering. There's also a flashy trailer for the videos.

The initiative was launched after research showed the most at-risk riders were weekday commuters, according to the force.

Road Safety Sergeant Chris Appleby said: ‘We have identified three high-risk groups of motorcyclists. These are leisure riders, commuters, and young scooter riders. Our priority still remains with leisure riders using high powered motorcycles on rural roads; however there is an emerging risk for commuter riders or urban motorcyclists as they choose bikes as a preferred travelling option.

‘We’ve therefore created a short video for safe urban riding from a police motorcycle trainer view and highlighted what hazards riders need to be aware of and how to reduce the risks associated with riding in urban areas.’

We’re not sure how much we learned from watching the videos but we’re impressed by the idea. What do you think?
