Dainese has unveiled what could be one of the most versatile sports motorbike boots on the market, with its new Nexus 3 combining race-bred protection with a design that can be worn either inside or outside riding kit.

The headline feature of the new £299 boot is a detachable shin guard, allowing riders to switch between an "in" configuration for use under jeans or textiles, or an "out" setup that could sit over leathers for riding on track. It's a simple idea, but one that could appeal to riders who split their time between road and track and don't want multiple pairs of boots cluttering up the garage.

The Nexus 3 takes plenty of inspiration from Dainese's racing programme, particularly when it comes to safety. At its core is the firm's Articulated Axial Distortion Control System, an external support structure designed to allow natural movement on the bike while limiting the sort of lateral twisting forces that can cause serious ankle injuries in a crash.

Beyond the protective hardware, the Nexus 3 has been built with everyday usability in mind. The outer combines Dainese's D-Stone fabric with a Groundtrax sole that's designed to offer grip on the pegs while resisting heat and wear. A rear-entry zip makes getting the boots on and off straightforward, while stretch panels aim to improve comfort and flexibility both on and off the bike.

Trackday riders are also catered for, with replaceable toe sliders available in either metal or plastic depending on preference, while a dedicated gear-shift protector helps prevent wear from repeated upshifts.

Available now in black or white, the Nexus 3 comes in sizes 38 to 48 and carries a recommended retail price of £299.

For riders looking for one boot capable of covering commuting, weekend blasts and the occasional track session, the Nexus 3's adaptable design could make it a standout option.
