The news comes from a post on the Completely Motorbikes social media channels, with a spokesperson from Yamaha UK also confirming it today.

Speaking on the matter, a Yamaha UK spokesperson, which has bikes in a Completely Motorbikes showroom, said:

“We have been notified that Completely Motorbikes have entered administration this week affecting our Yamaha site at Staverton. At this moment we are trying to understand more about the situation and our thoughts are with the staff and customers affected. We hope a new buyer can be found to secure the sale of the group. Until we know more, our customer services team remain available for customer enquiries.”

Further confirming the news is a post published on the Completely Motorbikes Facebook page. The post reads:

"Completely Motoring Limited, Thunder Road Motorcycles Limited and John Wilkins (Motor Engineers) Limited all enter administration.

"Urgent call for buyer to save leading new and used vehicle group Completely Motoring Limited, a leading new and used vehicle company which owns John Wilkins (MotorEngineers) Ltd and Thunder Road Motorcycles Ltd have all entered administration on 10 October 2024.

"Jonathan Amor, licenced Insolvency Practitioner with UK top ten accounting and advisory firm Azets, has been appointed Joint Administrator along with Matthew Richards of Azets and Alessandro Sidoli of Xeinadin Corporate Recovery Limited.

"The Joint Administrators are urging interested parties to make contact as soon as possible to maximise the chances of securing the future of the £70 million turnover group. In total, the group employs 165 people across 14 showrooms and 11 locations spanning Wales and the South West of England."

Joint Administrator Jonathan Amor, a Restructuring Partner at Azets, said:

“The Group has encountered financial difficulties after a poor Summer sales period. As a result, the Group has been placed into administration to protect it. We are exploring sale options with interested parties. “We have received several expressions of interest and we urge any other parties to make contact as soon as possible, with a view to securing a future for the Group and saving as much of the business, and as many jobs, as possible.”

It goes on to confirm that parties looking to speak to the administrator should contact Jonathan Amor, the  Restructuring & Insolvency Partner.

Reports have been coming in for the last few days, with one of those coming from the website Moto Gold, which reported that Addleshaw Goddard had stated that the Completely Motoring chain had filed to appoint an administrator on 3 October. This confirmation now means specialist administrators will be called and will make a judgement on whether to part out the business in smaller chunks, or try and sell it as a whole.

The news will likely have customers who are buying from CM and those whose bikes are in for service and appraisal fairly worried, although it seems that this could be a sign of the times for large group dealer networks. New bike sales aren’t the strongest right now, and with such large showrooms that need to be full to look anywhere near inviting to customers, it seems as though it is Completely Motorbikes size that could lead to its downfall.

As this is a developing story we’ll update this page with new information as soon as we have it.
