The new machine slots into BMW’s ever-expanding GS range and targets the growing crop of riders looking for a lighter, more manageable adventure bike without stepping all the way down to an entry-level machine. Demo rides are now available through official BMW Motorrad dealers across the UK.

Powered by a newly developed 450cc parallel-twin engine producing 48hp, the F450 GS weighs a claimed 178kg and has been designed to bridge the gap between smaller-capacity adventure bikes and the larger, more touring-focused models in BMW’s lineup.
Visordown recently got the chance to ride the new bike, coming away impressed by how approachable and unintimidating it feels both on and off-road. Rather than trying to mimic the bigger R 1300 GS, the F 450 GS focuses on being lighter, slimmer and easier to manage, especially at lower speeds and on loose terrain.

That accessible nature appears to be central to BMW’s thinking with the bike. The brand says the F450 GS has been aimed at newer riders, returning riders and experienced adventure riders who simply want something less bulky than a full-size ADV machine.
Technology is also a major part of the package. BMW’s new Easy Ride Clutch system is fitted as standard on the Trophy version, reducing the amount of manual clutch input needed in slow-speed or technical riding situations. Shift Assistant Pro, multiple riding modes and a suite of rider aids are also available depending on specification.

Styling follows familiar GS themes, with the bike getting BMW’s signature LED headlight design and upright adventure-bike ergonomics. Four versions will be available in the UK: Base, Exclusive, Sport and Trophy.
The arrival of the F 450 GS also comes at a time when the middleweight adventure market is becoming increasingly competitive, with manufacturers recognising growing demand for bikes that prioritise usability and versatility over outright size and power.
Customers who want to get a first-hand look at the F450 GS can do so by contacting their local BMW Motorrad dealer.
