BMW Motorrad has revealed the F450 R, a new A2-compliant naked bike based on the same 420cc parallel-twin platform as the F 450 GS. The roadster will be available in four variants, with UK prices starting at £6,395.

The F450 R is expected to arrive in UK dealerships in May 2027, with prices rising to £6,995 for the range-topping M Sport with Innovation Package.

The new model produces 48hp at 8,750rpm and 43Nm of torque at 6,750rpm, putting it at the upper limit of what can be ridden on an A2 licence. BMW claims a ready-to-ride weight of 175kg, giving the F450 R a power-to-weight ratio intended to make it an agile option for newer riders and those looking for a lightweight and sporty roadster.

The engine uses a 135-degree crankpin offset, with BMW claiming the configuration helps deliver a distinctive character alongside smooth running.

The company says 80 per cent of the available torque is on tap from 3,000rpm, while claimed fuel consumption stands at 3.8 litres per 100km (74.3mpg). With those figures in mind, a 14-litre fuel tank is said to provide a range of more than 200 miles.

The F450 R uses a tubular steel space frame, with the engine acting as a stressed member. Suspension consists of a 43mm KYB upside-down fork and a KYB rear shock, while the rear wheel is carried by an aluminium swingarm.

The optional Sport Suspension adds adjustable rebound and compression damping at the front, with preload and rebound adjustment at the rear.

Braking comes from a 310mm front disc with a Brembo four-piston monobloc calliper at the front, backed up by a 240mm rear disc. BMW Motorrad ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control, Dynamic Traction Control and engine drag torque control are all standard, alongside Rain, Road and Dynamic riding modes.

The F450 R also gets a six-speed gearbox, with Shift Assistant Pro fitted as standard to all but the entry-level model.

The system allows clutchless upshifts and downshifts, while the optional Easy Ride Clutch automatically engages the clutch according to engine speed. BMW says the latter should make the bike easier to manage in traffic and when manoeuvring.

A 790mm seat height, LED lighting, heated grips and a 6.5-inch TFT display feature across the range.

The display includes smartphone connectivity for calls, music and navigation, while M Sport models with Riding Modes Pro gain additional display layouts and a lap timer.

Four versions will be offered in the UK. The £6,395 base model comes in Cosmic Black, while the £6,645 Exclusive adds Shift Assistant Pro and Sport Suspension.

The £6,770 M Sport gets Riding Modes Pro, Shift Assistant Pro and Sport Suspension, along with Snaefell White and M Motorsport detailing.

At £6,995, the M Sport with Innovation Package automatically gets the Easy Ride Clutch, which is the same deal on the top-spec F450 GS Trophy Edition.
