The government has granted the Competition and Markets Authority new powers to help it monitor petrol prices and improve competition in the market.
After three months of them falling, petrol prices at the pump could be set to be on the rise as wholesale fuel prices begin to go back up.
Fuel prices have dropped from their peak at the start of the month by over 2p per litre, and within two weeks savings of £10 per tank could be seen.
