THE Honda Racing Team has released Episode 3 of the Building the Blade series, for this episode the team is focussing on the electronics of the bike, maximising it for success in the British Superbike Championship.

The in-depth series follows the Honda Racing team as they develop the all-new Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP ready for the 2020 Bennetts British Superbike and Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championships.

Building the Blade ep4

This installment of Building the Blade looks into the electronics and what is required to set-up a brand-new machine using the championship-standard MoTeC ECU, along with fuel delivery and torque mapping of the engine. With limited development time, the team focussed their efforts on maximising stock components for the Fireblade, including the frame and swingarm as they arrived at the opening round of the championship at Donington Park.

This episode follows the progress from pre-season testing at Albacete in March, through to a private test at Cadwell Park in preparation for the delayed first round of the 2020 BSB season. Here we can see the team working with Talos Designs as they develop a larger capacity fuel tank for the bike, as well as working Nova Racing Transmissions, on the bike's stronger and lighter gearbox.

The team uses laser scanning and 3D printing to help create bespoke parts for the new 2020 Honda BSB contender.

Honda's Glenn Irwin is currently sitting at the top of the rider's championship with 157pts and a 35pt lead over the second place man of Josh Brookes on his Ducati. Glenn's younger brother Andrew is currently in 8th place on 83pts.
