Jonathan Rea has broken Alvaro Bautista’s domination at the Aragon World Superbike round by topping the final practice session in tricky conditions, with the championship leader down in fourth place.
The reigning World Superbike champion produced a late lap of 1m 50.665s to leap to the top of the times ahead of former team-mate Tom Sykes who continues to impress on the new BMW.
Top lap times were around one second slower than Friday’s fastest efforts given the heavy rain which hit Aragon yesterday afternoon combined with the cold track temperatures which greeted the start of FP3.
Alex Lowes kept in touch for Pata Yamaha in third place to push Bautista down to fourth with his Aruba.it Racing Ducati team-mate Chaz Davies slotting into fifth place.
BMW’s Markus Reiterberger demonstrated his credentials in tricky conditions with sixth place ahead of Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam and top independent rider Eugene Laverty on the Team Go Elven Ducati.

Marco Melandri crept back into the top 10 ahead of GRT Yamaha team-mate Sandro Cortese after the Italian struggled throughout Friday practice, while Puccetti Kawasaki’s Toprak Razgatlioglu edged Michael van der Mark on the Pata Yamaha with the Dutch driver off the pace so far at the Spanish circuit.
Jordi Torres claimed 13th place in FP3 for Pedercini Kawasaki ahead of Leandro Mercado on the Orelac Kawasaki as Michael Ruben Rinaldi rounded out the top 15 on the Barni Ducati.
Honda’s woes at Aragon continued with Leon Camier, Ryuichi Kiyonari and Alessandro Delbianco completing the bottom of the times – with the Italian rider suffering a crash a Turn 9 five minutes in the session.
