BMW Motorrad confirm Haslam for 2012
LEON HASLAM will remain with BMW Motorrad next season after extending his contract for another year.
Haslam has so far finished on the podium twice and comfortably sits in fifth in the World Superbike championship with three rounds to go. Commenting on staying on the factory S1000RR, he said: “I am really happy to continue the relationship with BMW Motorrad, and I have full faith in the project. I cannot wait for the next year to start and to fight for the World Championship again. Now I can fully focus on the final three rounds of the 2011 season. I am optimistic to finish the year on a high.”
The Derbyshire rider joined BMW this year with high expectations after finishing second to Aprilia's Max Biaggi on the Alstare Suzuki, this year the struggles as the bike has not yet grown into a championship contender.
BMW Motorrad Motorsport Director Bernhard Gobmeier added: “We’re delighted to be working with Leon again next season, Leon has impressed us from day one. We value and share his ambition, passion and absolute will to win. I’m in no doubt that we’ll be able to achieve our goals together.”
BMW are yet to confirm the second rider, although it will be made at a later stage. Current teammate, Troy Corser could be retiring at the end of the season and Marco Melandri is one of the names attached to the vacated seat on the BMW.
