Michael van der Mark has undergone surgery to stabilise his fractured radius following the violent accident that ruled him out of the Misano WorldSBK round.

The Dutchman crashed heavily in the closing stages of the FP2 session – shortly after topping the timesheets – the resulting impact leaving him with a concussion and a fracture to his right wrist.

Forced to watch the race weekend on the sidelines, the Pata Yamaha rider has since gone under the knife at Rimini Hospital to assist with the recovery of the radius fracture before returning to his home in Rotterdam.

For now, there is no word on when van der Mark will return to competition but the next event at Donington Park gets underway in little more than a week’s time.

Should a substitute be required, Yamaha faces a potential headache given its test rider Niccolo Canepa – who has previously been called up – will be on Moto E duties in Germany.
