THE green BMW M3 Competition which was given to Peter Hickman to drive while at the North West 200 was involved in a road traffic accident early on Wednesday (11 May 2022) morning.

Hickman was given the car by a sponsor, JKC BMW, who have also supplied the North West 200’s safety and medical car fleet for the 2022 races. JKC BMW made a Facebook post with a photo of Hickman with the car. It appears that the post has since been deleted, but an image of it was published by MCNews, which you can see below.

Police Service Northern Ireland’s Inspector O’Brien said, “Officers attended the scene where it is believed that a green BMW M3 collided with walls outside a number of properties, causing extensive damage. Significant damage was also sustained by the vehicle.

“When officers arrived, there was no-one in the car and at this stage, we are treating this as a hit-and-run road traffic collision. Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident and identify those involved,” Inspector O’Brien continued.

On Wednesday morning, the FHO Racing Team released the following statement on their Facebook page:

“FHO Racing confirm that a vehicle driven by a team technical staff member, together with two other team technical staff passengers was involved in a road traffic collision in the Portstewart area in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday 11th May).

“No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were sustained by any of the occupants.

“The matter is being dealt with by the Police.”

At this point in time there is nothing to say that Hickman himself was involved in the accident. The TT winner is due to race FHO’s BMW M1000RRs in both the Superstock and Superbike classes this week at the North West 200.
