Triumph named as new Moto2 engine supplier from 2019

Triumph will be the official engine supplier for the Moto2 World Championship from 2019 after signing a three-year deal which was announced at Mugello.

The English brand will provide race-tuned 765cc three-cylinder engines for the intermediate class starting from the 2019 season until at least 2021. Moto2 has been using Honda CBR600 engines since it replaced the two-stroke 250cc class in 2010 with power units being built and maintained at ExternPro in Aragon since 2012.

The delicately-tuned Honda engines have performed reliably and equally, as required during the new category's early years, and the move has been introduced to shake-up the class and pull away from Supersport comparisons. 

The fastest (600cc) World Supersport race lap in this year's Phillip Island event was less than 0.4s slower than the best Moto2 lap from last October. 

It had already been confirmed Magneti Marelli will supply the control Moto2 ECU from 2019 to come in line with MotoGP electronics.
