Fabio Quartararo has delighted the home fans at Le Mans by topping warm-up ahead of the French MotoGP beating pole-sitter Marc Marquez and an impressive performance from Red Bull KTM rider Pol Espargaro.
In tricky conditions with rain threatening overhead at the French circuit, Quartararo produced a stunning run of laps using the soft dry tyres before ending the 20-minute session with a 1m 32.483s which gave the Petronas Yamaha rider a 0.142s gap on Marquez.
With the Repsol Honda rider continuing to threaten at the front, strong signs also emerged from Espargaro on the factory KTM in third place ahead of LCR Honda’s Cal Crutchlow.
Despite a late tip off at Turn 3, Maverick Vinales completed the top five on the Monster Yamaha ahead of factory Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso.
Franco Morbidelli ended warm-up just one spot behind his qualifying position in seventh place for Petronas Yamaha but in front of front-row starters Jack Miller (Pramac Ducati) and Danilo Petrucci (Ducati).
After darting through Q1 to fifth place on the grid in qualifying, Valentino Rossi maintained his charge inside the top 10 for the factory Yamaha, but it was a tricky session for Jorge Lorenzo down in 14th place for Repsol Honda.
It was a nightmare session for Joan Mir and Suzuki as he crashed twice, one of each bike, leaving him down in 17th place. Tito Rabat was another faller in the warm-up session with the Avintia Ducati rider relegated in 22nd place.
The French MotoGP gets underway at Le Mans later today at 14:00 CET.
