IT'S been the subject of speculation for a while and now it’s being widely reported in Spain that the telecom firm Movistar will be the main sponsor of Yamaha’s MotoGP effort in 2014.
The deal is understood to be part of a thrust by Movistar to create a TV service that will concentrate on non-football sports, in particular F1 and MotoGP, which it hopes to have exclusive Spanish rights to by 2016.
We still haven’t seen any official press releases on the matter, but we understand that the Yamaha team will be called Movistar Yamaha, with the Movistar logo featuring prominently on the bikes, once the deal is announced.
