The seven are the first to have their applications approved and published, although there could still be more MiniGP series announced on the 30th of April.

All riders will be using control Ohvale GP-0 160cc machinery, the official and sole motorcycle of the FIM MiniGP World Series project.

MiniGP UK cup - the road to MotoGP

In the UK, the MiniGP UK Series calendar takes in five rounds across the UK, with more than 15 riders on the Entry List set to compete on kart or short circuit layouts at Thruxton, Donington, Cadwell, Snetterton, and Silverstone beginning at the end of July.

The UK Ohvale importer is none other than Peter Hickman, the fastest road racer on the planet and long-time uber-fan of the exotic Italian miniature race bikes.

We spoke to Peter when the MiniGP series was originally announced, he said:

"It’s mega to see the likes of the FIM and Dorna get behind Ohvale as a brand, it really cements what I have been saying for the past year or so, that the Ohvale bikes are the perfect steppingstone into racing and onto BSB, European Championships and even MotoGP! Myself, as Ohvale UK couldn’t be prouder of what we achieved with our 110cc class in 2020 with over 25 riders competing throughout the year. Now to see a world 160cc class, we have already announced to run a 160cc Ohvale only class at the Rich Energy British Mini Bikes Championship earlier this week, affiliated with the FIM and Dorna is awesome. I can’t wait to see what talent we have to prevail from these championships!"
