More power, more fun for in-form Quartararo
Fabio Quartararo leads Yamaha's charge at the Italian MotoGP on Friday, says he is 'enjoying Mugello for the first time'
Still riding the confidence high of his record-breaking pole position in Jerez, Fabio Quartararo continued his strong single lap form in practice for the Italian MotoGP as he experienced Mugello on a MotoGP machine for the first time.
Once again showing a rapid turn of pace with the soft rear tyre fitted to his Petronas Yamaha SRT, Quartararo was quick in both FP1 and FP2, going fourth best in the morning and second in the afternoon.
Comfortably the quickest Yamaha rider of the day, the rookie Frenchman – who has managed just a single top ten finish at Mugello in four GP starts – says he is enjoying the sweeping Italian venue for the first time now he is getting to ride it with more power.
"This track is incredible,” he beamed. “I'm enjoying myself a lot on this bike. I feel good under braking and the bike turns really well, so I'm making the most of this and I will do my best to be as fast as possible.
“I think it's the first time I have enjoyed myself in this way at this track. We need to review the data but I think that it will be really difficult to get onto the front row of the grid here, because there are many riders whose times are close together.
“Tomorrow we will continue working on the tyre choice for the race and we will try to have a good qualifying session."
