Marc Marquez plays down the prospect of changes being made to his championship leading Repsol Honda in a bid to accommodate the struggling Jorge Lorenzo

Marquez unmoved by influence of Lorenzo HRC visit

Marc Marquez insists he won’t dwell on any changes brought about in the Repsol Honda garage as a result of struggling team-mate Jorge Lorenzo’s visit to HRC in Japan ahead of the Catalunya MotoGP.

Three-time MotoGP World Champion Lorenzo flew to Honda HQ in Japan in the days following another lacklustre MotoGP race in Italy, the Spaniard having finished outside the top ten of an event he won only a year earlier with Ducati.

Raising speculation HRC could apply some pressure on adapting the RC213V to suit Lorenzo’s style more as in an effort to spur better results and gain some return on the significant investment it has made in signing the Spaniard.

Marquez, who leads the 2019 MotoGP title race by 12 points, is however unconcerned about the extra attention being paid to his team-mate, saying he trusts Honda to know how it wants to develop the bike for both.

“I am just concentrating on my side of the box,” he said. “All the riders want the best bike but in the end I am working on my way, in my garage… Honda knows which way we need to follow. We just want to keep going, my target is to win the championships and to help the engineers get better and have the strongest bike.”

Lorenzo is expected to get a series of new parts intended to help him get more comfortable on the bike, but has said they don’t amount to changing the bike to suit his style more.
