Marquez suffers near 200mph crash at Mugello

Flat-out on the main straight, Marquez gets a wheel in the dirt

MARC Marquez has suffered a huge crash on the main straight at Mugello during FP2 but looks to have escaped with minor injuries.

The Repsol Honda rider crashed on the main straight after getting a wheel on the grass, he parted company with his bike and bounced through the gravel. Medical teams were instantly on the scene and Marquez was seen waving his arms as he was carried to the ambulance on a stretcher.

Initial reports claim Marquez has got away with minor injuries but no word yet as to whether he'll be back out on the bike this weekend.

Valentino Rossi breifly led the session, but it was his Yamaha team mate Jorge Lorenzo who ended on top, followed by Rossi in second and Cal Crutchlow in third.

UPDATE: Marquez said of the crash: "Just after the hill on the straight I grabbed for the brakes but I closed the front. I tried to save it but the bike was pulling me towards the wall so I jumped from the bike to avoid hitting it. I hit my chin hard and strained my neck quite badly I also have some contusions to my right shoulder, arm and leg but other than that I'm ok. Thanks to all the medical team that were quickly on the scene to assist me. Now I need to rest and see how I feel tonight & in the morning"
