Japan set for Shoya Tomizawa funeral

GP racing says goodbye to talented 19-year-old Moto2 star

THE FUNERAL of Moto2 star Shoya Tomizawa is set to take place in Japan today (Wednesday) following the 19-year-old's fatal accident during the Moto2 GP at Misano, on 5th September.

Tomizawa's body was returned to Japan at the weekend for a private rememberance service before a public funeral ceremony in Asahi, near Chiba.

Tomizawa's grief-stricken parents flew to Italy to oversee proceedings, dealing with the necessary paperwork before accompanying their son's body back home to Japan.

An immensely popular figure in the MotoGP paddock, Tomizawa died from serious head and chest injuries following a three-bike pile-up at the Italian circuit.

Tomizawa entered GP history books when he won the inaugural Moto2 race, which took place at Losail, Qatar, on 11th April 2010.
