Rins commented on his Twitter about the arrival of the 'AR42 Racing Team' by saying: “I present to you the AR42 Team for MotoGP 2023. We have managed to get Suzuki to give us the GSX-RR to be in MotoGP next year with a very special team manager. Thanks to all our partners for making it possible.”
This would be a dream come true for many MotoGP, Suzuki and Rins fans. However, this is all sadly the Spanish equivalent of April Fools. The 28th of December in Spain is known as El Día de los Santos Inocentes, the day when Spanish people pull pranks.
Rins did address this on his Twitter by clarifying his announcement by saying: “Sorry if you believed this guys. Today is El Día de los Santos Inocentes in Spain, our April Fool’s day, when we pull some pranks on our loved ones, I really really wish it was true but we have an exciting project ahead now and we’ll focus on that.”
However, seeing this prank from Rins has made people think how cool it would be to see Suzuki return in this capacity. Rins joined MotoGP in 2017 with Suzuki, who he stayed with until the end of the 2022 season. In these six years with the Japanese manufacturer Rins won five races and took a further 12 podiums with the team, including two victories in the team's final three races.
Obviously, there is already the VR46 Racing Team that exists in MotoGP, which is owned by MotoGP Legend, Valentino Rossi. The arrival of this team was a huge deal in MotoGP. Although Rins may not be a household name like Rossi, a Suzuki team owned and run by Rins would certainly be something popular.
Many fans were devastated at the departure of Suzuki and Rins has been a great servant to the Japanese manufacturer so a partnership between the manufacturer and rider would be a great sight for MotoGP’s future.
