2022 MotoGP Pre-Season Testing Results [Final] | Bastianini fastest for Gresini

Enea Bastianini gets preparations for the 2022 MotoGP World Championship underway with top time on final day of pre-season test

Enea Bastianini underlined his status as a rider-to-watch ahead of the 2022 MotoGP World Championship by topping the timesheets on weather disrupted second day of the Sepang test in Malaysia.

Continuing the strong form he demonstrated on his Gresini Ducati debut in Jerez last year, Bastianini followed up his fourth place spot on the Saturday timesheets with the quickest lap overall on Sunday aboard the GP21.

One of the standout riders from the 2021 season, the Moto2 title-winning rookie starred with two career-defining podiums in Misano on the two-year old Avintia Ducati.

The results that have earmarked him as a rival of Jorge Martin for a potential Ducati factory seat in 2023, though he will still ride the year-old Desmo for reformed satellite team Gresini Racing this year..

Saturday pacesetter Aleix Espargaro maintained his strong form as Aprilia ended its test - which spanned four days as a result of testing concessions - confident it has a quick RS-GP package in its hands for 2022.

A much stronger day for Ducati after the new GP22 laboured down the timesheets on Saturday, Pramac’s Martin was third fastest, ahead of top Suzuki rider Alex Rins and Maverick Vinales on the second Aprilia.

Cautious bookies favourite Pecco Bagnaia rose up the order to seventh fastest after a more productive day for the Italian, ahead of the rider he was beaten by for the 2021 MotoGP title, top Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo.

Marc Marquez was again top Honda rider in eighth position, ahead of Johann Zarco and Pol Espargaro who rounded out the top ten.

Heavy rain in the afternoon meant the day’s mileage was attained in the morning with Remy Gardner and Darryn Binder rounding off more revolutions with 55 laps each.
