Oulton Park BSB Race 2 Results | Wily O’Halloran denies Iddon to double up

Jason O'Halloran leaves it until the very final moment to pounce on Christian Iddon for BSB victory in Race 2 at Oulton Park, with Peter Hickman third.

Jason O'Halloran - McAMS Yamaha

Jason O’Halloran continued his perfect start to the 2021 British Superbike Championship season with a second win of the weekend at Oulton Park - Round 1 of the season -courtesy of a last gasp pass for the lead through the final corner.

The Australian rounded out a fairly comfortable winner in race one after taking the lead mid-way through, but this time waited until the very final bend to get the edge over long-time leader Christian Iddon.

Having played second fiddle to the McAMS Yamaha rider in race one, Iddon got the jump on him at the start of race two and set about trying to put air between the pair as O’Halloran got crossed up in an entertaining tusse with Peter Hickman on the FHO Racing BMW.

However, once O’Halloran had shaken the advances of Hickman, he set off in pursuit of Iddon, tailing the VisionTrack Ducati rider for several laps and sizing up feigned moves during the closing stages. However, he’d wait until the very final moment to pounce with a ballsy overtake into Old Hall, O’Halloran getting it pulled up to out-drag Iddon to the finish line.

Two wins on the bounce - with one more race to come today - sees O’Halloran establish 50 points at the head of the standings, from Iddon on 40 points.

A first BSB podium for FHO Racing and the BMW M 1000 RR on its respective debuts, Hickman’s efforts will also see him start the final race of the day from pole position too.

Further back, Danny Buchan and Bradley Ray followed up on their BMWs in fourth and fifth, while Tarran Mackenzie recovered from a clash with Tommy Bridewell - which eliminated the Oxford Racing rider when his chain detached - to finish sixth, ahead of defending champion Josh Brookes on the VisionTrack Ducati.

Lee Jackson led the Kawasaki challenge in eighth, ahead of top Honda rider Glenn Irwin and Kyle Ryde, who despite only managing tenth in race two, set a lap fast enough to put him on the front row in race three.
